GrinGO App and Angeles Verdes announce intent for a tech partnership focused on Border Region Tourism at Tianguis Turistico Acapulco.
(May 24, 2022; Acapulco, Guerrero) GrinGO App and the Angeles Verdes, a FREE tourist roadside assistance program operating under Mexico’s Secretary of Tourism (SECTUR) announced during the annual Tianguis Turistico Conference the intent to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) in the coming weeks that will focus on bringing technological innovation and program promotion to the Angeles Verdes U.S. tourist assistance services.
The Angeles Verdes have operated since 1960 as a program consisting of 10 patrol vehicles and 40 drivers trained as mechanics. Over the years it has evolved to now an organization of over 700 employees with a fleet of over 350+ vehicles that assist over 650,000 service calls per year (175k+ mechanical) along 206 designated tourist routes that combine as 9,000 miles of highway pavement.
The program contributes and strengthens the regional and State development of the country. Beneficiaries of the program include the country’s Pueblos Magicos, destinations that are promoted as the jewels of Mexico with economies that depend on tourist spend. Many of these Magical Towns are located in remote locations that demand driver confidence along the highways that connect them with the big populous cities.
Integrating the Angeles Verdes operating system with the GrinGO platform, the tourist, which is our principal objective, will have all the information needed before entering Mexico en route to their final destination to have a more pleasant and SAFE trip,” says Lic. Miguel Torruco Marqués, Secretario de Turismo de México.
The Angeles Verdes is a Federal program that not only services tourists, the program indirectly contributes to the North American economy through its assistance keeping the supply chain moving within Mexico and Northbound to the USA,” stated Brian Krupski, CEO of GrinGO. “As a result, Binational trade agreements such as the USMCA can be successful with the uninterrupted flow of goods grown or manufactured in Mexico,” says Krupski. Krupski highlighted that another Phoenix-based company, Knight-Swift Transportation, depends on the Angeles Verdes daily whenever one of its semi-trucks have an accident along a highway where the Angeles Verdes are there to help them get back on the road with its time-sensitive transport of fruits, vegetables, or auto or aerospace parts produced at maquiladoras that are headed across the border for assembly in the United States.
“A partnership with GrinGO will open the doors to explore continued innovation to our program and to leverage their network of Southbound travelers to Mexico and the approximate 1.5 million American Expats residing in Mexico, to promote our roadside services with the goal to increase foreign traveler confidence along our national highway system,” says Alejandro Zúñiga Bernal, director de la Corporación de Servicios al Turista “Ángeles Verdes.”
Participating in the ceremony, Lic. Miguel Torruco Marqués, Secretary of Tourism of México; Mtro. Humberto Hernández-Haddad, Subsecretary of Quality y Regulation.
